A ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ON “HIGHER EDUCATION LANDSCAPE OF BANGLADESH CONTEMPORARY THOUGHTS”

The program was held on Monday, 9 March 2026, bringing together leading policymakers, academics, and education leaders to exchange views on the future of higher education in Bangladesh.Mr. Bobby Hajjaj, Hon’ble State Minister for the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, attended the program as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB), joined the session as Special Guest.

The roundtable was jointly organized by the Bangladesh Society for Private University Academics (BSPUA) in collaboration with North South University (NSU). Distinguished participants included Mr. Benajir Ahmed, Former Chairman and Member of the Board of Trustees, and Prof. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of North South University.
In his remarks, State Minister Bobby Hajjaj emphasized that policy support and academic excellence must go hand in hand to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global economy. He noted, “We need evidence-based policy and must listen to all stakeholders—including students and educators—to build a stronger and more inclusive higher education system for the future.”

Speaking as the Special Guest, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan highlighted the growing importance of private universities in Bangladesh’s higher education ecosystem. He remarked, “Private universities have become an important pillar of higher education in the country. However, to expand higher education effectively, all levels of the education system must be strengthened, and policy formulation should involve participation from all stakeholders.”
The session was chaired by Prof. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University and President of BSPUA.

The discussion was followed by an Iftar party.
